Singapore Trip '13: G4 Station & The Rashes

G4 Station is the hostel we stayed in while in Singapore. To sum everything up, it's a good hostel with good reviews on net. I only had unforgettable isolated case in this hostel. On the second day of our stay in Singapore, rashes started to appear. The itch started off from my jawline. I didn't pay too much attention on it as I thought it's just a little rash. Hours had passed, while we were in Universal Studios, more rashes started to appear, some are itchy and some are just plain red. I started to feel uncomfortable when almost everything got itchy. We even sought for medical help. The personnel on the first aid station of Universal Studios said that it may just be because of the sudden change of climate, I might just have a sensitive skin. That's what we thought. I even bought clarityn, as advised by the personnel from Watson's, but sadly, it hasn't change anything.

On our pictures on the second day, you will see all the rashes starting to appear. I'm telling you, it's no fun! First of all, it hampered my enjoyment towards the day, it made me feel uncomfortable, and the pictures will forever say that I have (really ugly) rashes that day. Isn't it just plain sad?

The night that we went to hostel (2nd night), I was really uncomfortable by then. I can almost not walk using my slippers and everything has been really itchy. I can't take it anymore and asked for my cousin's advise regarding the matter and what those rashes are, how come I have it. I was far away from home. I felt helpless. I sent a message to my brother regarding my situation to make me feel at least at home.

The next morning, I received a message from my cousin and she's suspecting that it's from bed bugs bite. I personally thought that it isn't because the hostel has a good review and their hostel looked tidy.

The next morning, our 3rd day, I was really not in the mood to join the planned activities. I don't look good with all that rashes all over my body. G4 personnel were nice enough to provide me a calamine lotion. They even cleaned up our whole room and they offered transferring us to another room. Even though I thought I have the right to nag them about my situation, I can't because they showed me hospitality.

It was on the 3rd day that my boyfriend saw some red patches from my bed. That might be my blood when the bed bugs were biting me. Actually I have already saw on our 2nd night some blood around the upper part of the bed. I thought that it was just a dirt or whatever so I didn't mind much of it. I was so wrong. I should have suspected it's my blood. It could've not gotten worse :(

My boyfriend showed the pictures to the personnel and that's when they offered transferring us to another room. And we, we were already 90% sure that whatever I had were bed bugs bite.

On our third day, I was not in the mood to join activities. I can hardly stand. I pity myself for experiencing such. And I was a hard feeling with my boyfriend 'cause I feel that the trip is more important to him than my condition. Tears fell to my face when I can't take it anymore.

We were in search of a clinic for the experts to see what really my condition was and to give me proper medication. I was really not in the mood and I felt really sad for my condition. I said that they can go on with activity they prepared that day and I can stay on the hostel. But one of our friends, offered us to treat coffee so that we can just chill and that I can join them since it's also raining and we can't go out just like that. (Post here)

This is how I look..

It seemed that the bed bugs enjoyed my blood huh.

On our last day, the G4 Station Team has given me a Gentrisone Cream for my rashes. On the box, pasted was a small note of how sorry they were for my condition but still not admitting that I got it from them. That is sweet of them. But for me, still justice wasn't served for all the damages it has brought me: I didn't get to enjoy the vacation that much, I was advised not to go to the office for 5 days, all the medicines and consultation fees, all the aftermath of these scars, the taxis that we rented while looking for the clinic in Singapore, and the loooong time I'll be carrying these scars. They were nice, but I think it wasn't enough. Justice wasn't served. They refunded the calatryn and the xyzal that I bought though.

In conclusion, my friend thought that although they didn't admit that they get any trace of bed bugs on my bed, he thought that they really found some but did not admit it to us because it will cost them more and it will bring bad feedback on them. Before cleaning our room, they don't feel like helping us financially or supporting us while in search of clinic. But on the last day, they were surprisingly offering us to refund the medicines that I bought. They even handed me a Gentrisone. Signs of guilt, can you see it?

On our last day, I can hardly walk, I take my step little by little. My feet hurt badly and were already swollen. I was even ridden in a wheelchair on NAIA. I was really having a hard time. I feel really itchy, I can't walk well, I have blisters on my legs and feet, I can't wear my slippers well because of the blisters, I feel so ugly... Everything just made me feel really bad. Plus, people from the Changi Airport especially Filipinos look at my rashes. The family especially after us on the line to check in was badly looking at my rashes. What the hell do you care? Some people are really judgmental. And I know for myself that Filipinos are extra judgmental. I can't take it anymore when the mom from the family was gazing at my legs. Her eyes were locked on it. I showed her that I know what she was doing and looked at her bad. And then she can't look at me in the eye. Finally she stopped staring at me. But what fate has done, on the plane, the family was seating across us. OMG!

The Diagnosis

Upon check up to dermatologist, I am now more convinced that it's from the bed bugs as explained by dermatologist. Upon having seen my rashes, she said that rashes had stings (that much of insect bites.) It was explained well my question to myself why I don't have rashes on my thigh and my chest area. The doctor said that bed bugs are lazy, if they feel a barrier they won't get into you. I was wearing below-knee-length shorts and a shirt. Probably it explained the reason why. I have on my stomach and my back, probably because my shirt is going up while sleeping. Now really, bed bugs were the reason behind all of these. :(

Had these not happened to me, I would really love the G4 Station more. :( They're good and nice. About the facility, it's good. They have self-service breakfast station and an Al Fresco dining. It's the time that you get to mingle with other foreigners staying at the hostel.
